Our Mission

Vision:

The Saskatchewan Festival of Words is a growing showcase of Canada’s best authors, and the artistic use of spoken language designed to appeal and provide engaging entertainment and instruction to a variety of Moose Jaw residents and visitors.

Mission:

The Saskatchewan Festival of Words’ mission is to provide thoughtful and entertaining samples of the best of what Canadian authors and spoken word artists are producing in a variety of genres and media including the written word, slam poetry, song, drama, film, graphic novel, and the world wide web.

We provide an annual writers and readers festival that is interesting, entertaining and appealing to a wide variety of ages, interests and tastes, and a space where writers and artists can interact with our audiences and develop a unique literary experience.

Our workshops and reading/writing related experiences are designed to enhance the literacy of children, youth and adults, and to educate the public about literacy and the opportunities the festival provides.

We are committed to providing a first class provincial culture and tourism asset that will make the citizens and businesses of Moose Jaw proud and serve as an attractive feature for continued community development.

About Saskatchewan Festival of Words Inc.

The annual summer festival is the centerpiece event for this organization and is a showcase for the best of CanLit. The 4 day festival takes place the 3rd week of July in Moose Jaw, SK. One of the guiding principles behind the summer festival is to provide intimate venues allowing for high levels of interaction between writers and readers. Another principle is to offer a program that promotes both established and emerging voices working in a variety of genres and mediums. Workshops, panels, Q&A sessions, readings, panel discussions, slam poetry competitions, live musical and/or theatrical entertainment and trivia contests give attendees plenty to choose from. More than 30 presenters attend each year with approximately 60 events held during the four days.

Year round programming includes the monthly Performers Cafe open mic night (free event for all ages), the Cineview film series (bringing independent and foreign films to Moose Jaw through TIFF), and National Poetry Month readings.
